Remember Jheel Mehta aka old Sonu from popular sitcom ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah’? The girl who played the daughter of Atmaram Bhide (Mandar Chandwadkar) and Madhavi Bhide (Sonalika Joshi) had opted out of the show for her SSC exams. And now, this little girl is all grown up and ready to explore the other side of her interest.
The pretty girl was just 9 nine years old when she had joined the show. However, after playing the successful character of Sonu for almost four years; Jheel decided to take a break and concentrate on her studies.
Jheel is now 18 years old! And like every teenager girl, Jheel has lots of memories to cherish in this transition from teen to a full-blown adult. In an interview with Dailybhaskar.com, Jheel says, “Every single moment attached to the show will remain very close to me. ‘Taarak Mehta…’ have given me a lot in terms of fame and money. But, somewhere down the line, I wanted to do something else apart from acting. I was 14, when I decided to quit the show and study further. I scored 95% in my board exams and I was pretty happy with my decision.”
Talking more about her love for studies, Jheel says, “When I scored 95% in my SSC exams, people assumed that I will take up science and become a doctor. Honestly, I was interested in choosing medical, but then I took up commerce. I am currently doing BBA from NMMIS Universtiy, Mumbai and I wish to do MBA in abroad mostly. I haven’t decided yet on whether I will take finance or marketing. ”
In reality, Jheel is an extrovert and a relaxed person. She has lots of friends as she can make friends very easily.
She belongs to the category that studies a lot, but enjoys life too.
Jheel loves dancing. She loves acting too; but she wants to pursue acting just as a hobby and not as a career.
Jheel is the only child in the family. Being the youngest in her entire family, Jheel is pampered a lot.
Her mother, Lata Mehta is a beautician and a homemaker. Her father, Nalin Mehta is a businessman. At home, Jheel is very much pampered by her father.
In an interview with Dailybhaskar.com, Nalin Mehta said, “Jheel is a very innocent and intelligent girl. She knows what she wants in her life and that makes us very proud. Whatever she wants to do in her life, we are with her. As a child, she was very innocent. As years passed on, she has become mature. I am very proud to have a daughter like Jheel. We have never treated her as a daughter, she is like a son for us.”
Her parents are very supportive in her decisions especially, in her studies.
Before Taarak Mehta, Jheel had also done a show like Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi Hai produced under Hats Off Production.
After so many years, people still recognize her as Sonu from Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah and asks her for autographs.
Jheel is still in touch with ‘Taarak Mehta…’ actors. She sometimes visits the set and meets her co-stars.
She loves watching the old episodes of TMKOC. In fact, on her 18th birthday, her friends had gifted her DVD which had first 50 episodes of Taarak Mehta in it
Jheel is not much interested in doing a daily soap; but yes working for an AD is always on her wish list.
