The television industry has been abuzz about Karan Mehra ka Naitik quitting TV show, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai after playing the lead actor for seven years. Recently, Karan's wife, Nisha Rawal posted an emotional message on of her husband's behalf, and confirming the news about Karan quitting the show on a social networking site.
The actor, who has maintained stoic silence on the matter, spoke to a popular daily about his decision and the rumors surrounding his exit.
On being asked why he kept silent when rumors of him quitting Yeh Rishta... were doing the rounds for months, Karan said, "That's because I was not quitting earlier. There were talks of it since January as I was having some health issues, but we were trying to work out a way . But the long hours of shooting took a toll on my health. So, my health forced me to finally quit the show."
There were also rumors of Karan not getting along with his co-actor, Hina Khan. Is that true? Also, his wife Nisha said that the actor has reached at a 'saturation' point. What's this all about? "More than reaching a saturation point, I think I'm done with the show as it has been seven long years. I have played the character without any breaks or holidays. As for the problems with Hina, people just like to cook up stories. Since there's no controversy around Karan Mehra, people feel the need to justify my quitting the show. If there were problems with Hina, how do you think we worked together for so many years? In fact, I give credit to her and myself for being professional, despite not being friends. We also got many awards as the best jodi on television. Sorry to disappoint, but there is no spice in my quitting the show."
So is Karan planning to start a family? "My priority right now is to look after myself and spend time with my wife," said the actor before signing off.
Audiences will certainly miss Naitaik & 'Akshara-Naitik' golden couple on TV...
