Rahul Raj Singh, the boyfriend of deceased actor Pratyusha Banerjee, had
locked himself in the bathroom on Friday and allegedly threatened to
jump off the building at the Shree Sai Hospital where he was being
treated for depression, sources said. Rahul was discharged on Saturday
evening.
Rahul has been admitted at the hospital since April 3 for acute depression. On Friday, Rahul was questioned at the Bangur Nagar police station for two hours.
He returned to the hospital later in the afternoon. After some time, Rahul locked himself up in the bathroom on the first floor of the hospital. When he did not return for several minutes, his relatives got worried and sent for the doctor.
“While the doctors tried to convince him to step out of the washroom, Rahul threatened to jump off the building. However, the doctors talked to him and he emerged from the bathroom minutes later,” a source said.
On Saturday evening, Rahul
underwent a psychiatric evaluation after which he was discharged.
Doctors however said he has to continue taking medication and go for
counselling.
Meanwhile, Banerjee’s father Shankar wrote to the Indian Medical Association appealing for an inquiry and appropriate action against the director of hospital where Rahul was admitted. Shankar, in the letter, wrote, “Rahul was admitted at the hospital under some pretext of illness and we are sure that there is a high-handed conspiracy between the management of the hospital and the accused. Since the past few days, the accused is given shelter by the hospital. It may also be noted that we have learnt from reliable sources that in the past also this hospital has shielded criminals by taking huge amount of money from them.”
Dr Santosh Goel, from Shree Sai Hospital, said, “Where is the question of conspiracy? My work is done the moment he is alright. If he is a criminal, he should be given the heaviest punishment. My work is to ensure he is stable so he should not harm himself,” said Goel.
