Gautam Rode starrer ‘Mahakumbh’ went on air with a lot of hype and hoopla. The channel had pinned high hopes from the show given the fact that they had roped in a lead actor in the television industry to reap in maximum benefits from the deal.
Unfortunately, the idea to bring on board a star did not work and ‘Mahakumbh’ failed to take off in terms of TRPs even after weeks of its small screen premier.
A well-placed source told Pinkvilla recently that the channel is now once bitten and twice shy to take the same risk for its upcoming projects. Now that ‘Mahakumbh’ could not become as hit as ‘Devon Ke Dev…Mahadev’ on screen, the channel has decided to sign new faces for the forthcoming shows so that it does not have to pay hefty fee which a star demands. As per the source, Gautam was being paid more than a lakh per episode of ‘Mahakumbh’. So, by embracing the practice of working with lesser known or new actors, the channel will at least have control on its finances.
